On Saturday, September 9, 2023, something extraordinary happened at the TAMU-T / Texas High Cross Country Invitational meet. Dr. Ross Alexander, the president of Texas A&M - Texarkana University made an announcement that left everyone in attendance in awe. It was a day that showcased the true spirit of sportsmanship and generosity.

This cross-country meet was already a significant event with 20 schools participating, showcasing the talent and dedication of over 400 high school athletes. Little did the attendees know that this day would be about more than just running; it would be about life-changing opportunities.

Dr. Ross Alexander took to the mic with a twinkle in his eye, and in a surprise move, he unveiled a plan that would make a lasting impact on the lives of 20 high school seniors. He announced that Texas A&M - Texarkana University would be awarding 20 scholarships during the meet, each valued at $3,000. The recipients of these scholarships would become part of the prestigious Eagle Elite Scholarship program.

The twist that made this gesture even more remarkable was that these scholarships weren't reserved for the fastest runners or the most accomplished athletes. Instead, Dr. Alexander asked each head coach from the 20 schools in attendance to choose one senior from their team to receive the Eagle Elite Scholarship. This meant that it wasn't just about athletic prowess but about character, dedication, and leadership.

The recipients of these scholarships were students who had shown up that day with the simple intention of running their best. Little did they know that their dedication would lead to an opportunity for higher education that might have otherwise been out of reach.
Dr. Ross Alexander's surprise announcement was a testament to their belief in the power of education and sports to transform lives. It was a reminder that sometimes, the most unexpected and heartwarming moments can occur when people come together to support one another.

As the sun set on that memorable day at the TAMU-T / Texas High Cross Country Invitational, it was not just the winners of the races who left with a sense of accomplishment. It was the entire community of athletes, coaches, and spectators who witnessed the incredible generosity of Texas A&M - Texarkana University. This day will undoubtedly be etched in the memories of those 20 scholarship recipients, serving as a reminder that sometimes, showing up and giving your bes... Click here to read full article
